Pet Euthanasia: Gentle Goodbyes at Lexavet

When it's time to say goodbye: Pet euthanasia at Lexavet

One of the most difficult decisions a pet owner will ever have to make in their lifetime is deciding when it is the right time to let go. At Lexavet, we understand how heavy this moment can be and are here to support you throughout the entire process.

Euthanasia is a veterinary procedure that guarantees a painless and peaceful passing for the animal. It is the ultimate act of love in a situation where the pet's quality of life has irreversibly deteriorated.

"Euthanasia is a merciful decision that prevents unnecessary suffering and ensures that your pet's final moments are peaceful and painless."

When is the right time to make the decision?

The decision for euthanasia is always individual. As the owner, you know your pet best and will often notice the most significant changes in an aging pet's behavior and well-being. The following signs can help you assess the situation:

If you are unsure, you can always book an appointment for a consultation with our veterinarian. We will help you assess your pet's condition objectively and make the best decision for your pet.

How does the procedure progress at the clinic?

We strive to make the environment as serene as possible. The procedure progresses in stages:

1. Arrival: We welcome you into a quiet, peaceful space. We respect your wishes and, if your pet's condition allows, you can take all the time you need to be alone with your pet before we begin.

2. Sedation: The pet is given a relaxing sedative premedication that relieves any potential pain and eases anxiety. Your pet will fall asleep peacefully in your arms or by your side.

3. Euthanasia: Once the pet is in a deep sleep, an overdose of an anesthetic drug is administered, which stops the heart. The pet does not feel this at all.

4. Final Goodbyes: You can spend some time with your pet after the procedure. We are in no rush.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I be present during the procedure?

Yes, you are warmly welcome to stay by your pet's side the entire time. However, if you find the situation too overwhelming, you can also say your goodbyes after the sedation phase – both ways are completely acceptable.

How quickly can I get an appointment?

We strive to arrange euthanasias as soon as possible, often within the same day. Please call us directly at 044 7447 006.

Is the procedure painful?

No, it is not. The pet is in a deep sleep (anesthesia) before the medication that stops the heart is given. It is comparable to falling asleep for a surgery, but the sleep simply deepens further.
