Pet Dental Care and Dental Treatment

Safe and professional pet dental care in Helsinki

Dental diseases are among the most common health issues in pets, and they can significantly affect their overall health and quality of life. At Lexavet, all dental treatments are performed under inhalation anesthesia, which is the safest form of anesthesia available for small animals.

To support our treatments, we use advanced dental X-rays, allowing us to ensure that no hidden infections or structural damage remain unseen beneath the gums. The naked eye is often not enough to reveal the true condition of your pet's teeth.

Regular veterinary dental care prevents periodontitis and saves your pet from painful tooth extractions in the future.

What does a dental appointment include?

We organize our dental treatments systematically during dedicated Dental Days, allowing our team and technology to focus entirely on oral health care. Every patient receives individual, meticulous attention.

When is it Time to Book a Dental Treatment?

We recommend having your pet's mouth evaluated by a veterinarian annually. Contact Lexavet immediately if you notice any of the following symptoms:

How our "Dental Day" works – instructions for owners

On our Dental Days, your pet spends the day at our clinic receiving expert, compassionate care:

1. Arrival: Bring your pet in during our scheduled morning admission window. Your pet will stay in our care, allowing you to go about your day normally.

2. Treatment: We perform the initial examinations and dental X-rays. The veterinarian will call you if the diagnostic findings indicate a need for further procedures, such as extractions.

3. Discharge: We will coordinate a pickup time with you during the afternoon. We only discharge patients once they are fully awake, alert, and their vital signs are completely stable.

4. Preparation: Adult pets require an 8-hour fast before arrival (water is allowed). For small dogs weighing under 3 kg and puppies, a 4–6 hour fast is sufficient.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why does my pet need to be anesthetized for dental work?

General anesthesia is the only way we can thoroughly clean beneath the gumline and take accurate X-rays safely, without causing fear, stress, or pain to your pet.

Are dental X-rays really necessary?

Yes, absolutely. The vast majority of dental pathology, including painful root infections and bone loss, is hidden invisibly beneath the gumline. Without X-rays, a significant portion of oral disease would go untreated.

Is there a cancellation fee for dental appointments?

Yes. Due to the extensive scheduling required for dental and surgical procedures, we charge an increased cancellation fee if the appointment is cancelled less than 24 hours before the agreed time.
